 | Kid`s Fishing Day 04/06/2008 @ 11:49 PM CT The March weather was perfect for fishing at Mike Lewis Park it was full of people with poles. Everybody was having a great time at this newly designed park. The ponds were surrounded by people with fishing poles in the water hoping for a bite. The weather was warm with temperatures in the 80`s. The next evening we had snow don`t you just love this Texas weather. A lot of people must love it because the DFW Area was the fastest growing metropolitan area in the nation during 2007.

 | Ruthe Jackson wins a prestigious Award 04/06/2008 @ 6:32 PM CT Ruthe Jackson has won a prestigious Texas Environmental Excellence Award for 2008. She was selected from nominations statewide for her efforts in environmental education and conservation. Jackson is one of 12 winners statewide to be recognized with an award,presented by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality in a ceremony in Austin on April 30. For the past 22 years, Jackson served on the city council and has used her position to advocate for a wide range of environmental projects including a curbside recycling program in 2000. She founded the Grand Prairie chapter of Keep Texas Beautiful which won a 2006 Governor`s Community Achievement Award. Jackson is also the first woman in Texas to receive the National Lady Bird Johnson award in 1977 for her long-standing dedication to the Grand Prairie park system. Jackson focused on Grand Prairie`s youth by sponsoring programs for the area`s Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops. She is the namesake of Keep Texas Beautiful`s Ruthe Jackson Youth Leadership Award, given annually to students who exhibit environmental excellence. She was instrumental in establishing the Green and Clean Campus program at all 37 Grand Prairie schools, serving 20,000 students.

Good Link Trail connects C.P. Waggoner Park with Mike Lewis Park, 2600 N. Carrier Parkway.

He joined the National Marrow Donor Program registry, and within a year, he learned he was a perfect match for a patient in desperate need of a bone marrow transplant.

Due to the tremendous growth of the southern sector of the city the Tarrant Baptist Association will partner with Founding Pastor Malcolm L. Finkley, a Grand Prairie resident to launch Life Church in September.
